GODDARD: “GOOD STRENGTH” OR “GREAT BRAVERY”

A fitting legacy for a pioneering institution.

A group of stakeholders from Goddard College–including leadership from the faculty union, staff union, alumni, and student body–have joined forces to transform the college into a cooperatively run institution.

We intend to renew Goddard’s place in higher education as an innovative college in progressive education for the 21st century.

We are seeking to broaden our partnerships with like-minded individuals and organizations.

Are you interested in cooperative governance? Do you want to help establish the first accredited cooperative college in the United States? Are you passionate about securing a future for Goddard College that upholds its legacy of progressive, radical experimentation? If you are, then we’d love to have you involved our efforts! The movement for a cooperative institution of higher learning cannot be accomplished through hard work alone. We need donors like you to help sustain our work.

“I suggest that we must abandon the notion that schools or any institution can educate for life. Instead, we ought to accept the idea of conducting our schools to help people so live that they educate themselves. To put it a little differently, our aim ought to be to make life an education, rather than try to fashion an education for life…The real test of teaching and learning will be found in the effects of the school experience on the quality of people’s lives, and not primarily on their ability to recall items of subject matter.”
